Public Meeting on Lyndale Avenue Reconstruction
Wednesday, August 29th
Washburn High School Gymnasium

7 to 8:30 pm
The public is invited to attend a public informational meeting for the
reconstruction of Lyndale Avenue from Minnehaha Parkway to 31st Street,
which is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2008. The meeting will provide
residents and business owners an opportunity to view the final layout and
ask questions about the project.
The informational meeting will be informal, with representatives from
Hennepin County and the City of Minneapolis available to answer questions
and discuss the design. Feel free to stop by anytime between 7:00 and 8:30
pm.

Lyndale Neighborhood Happy Hour

Come join your friends and neighbors for a Happy Hour this Thursday. These
Happy Hours are a great chance to catch up with people. If youre planning
on going let mark (mark at lyndale.org) know so we can make sure to save enough
space.
LEAP Planning Meeting
Thursday, August 30th
Are you interested in helping plan LEAPs fall events. If so join us on
Thursday, August 30th (time and location TBD) as we plan out our fall

1st Annual Lyndale Neighborhood Garden Tour
Sunday, September 9th

3 to 5 pm
With a reception and raffle to follow at the Blaisdell Rain Garden (32nd and
Blaisdell)
The Environment Committee will be hosting the 1st Annual Lyndale
Neighborhood Garden Tour on Sunday, September 9th. The tour will be a
self-guided tour of some of the fantastic gardens here in Lyndale. Tickets
for the tour are $5 per person and can be purchased at the LNA offices 3537
Nicollet Avenue. There will also be a raffle for a wine cellar and other
garden items, raffle tickets are $5. For more information contact Mark at

Schedule of Walldogs Kickoff Events
The Lyndale Neighborhood Association is excited to announce the Walldogs on
Nicollet Project, a join project with the Kingfield Neighborhood
Association. During the weekend of September 15th we will be having a
Kick-off Weekend. The following is the schedule of events for that weekend.

Eating for Art
This is your chance to support neighborhood restaurants that are supporting
the Walldogs on Nicollet Project. So gather your friends and neighbors and
head out to eat on Thursday, September 13th. Each participating restaurant
is committed to donate a portion of its proceeds for that day to support the
Walldogs on Nicollet Project.

Garden Party
Come join us for a Garden Party to build support for the Walldogs on
Nicollet Project. Well be hosting a Garden Party -beer, wine, and light
food will be provided- at the home of Mark Hinds & Lisl Fuhrken, which is
located at 3616 Blaisdell Avenue. Suggested donation for the Garden Party
is $100, $50, $25 or whatever you can. To help out with the party or to
RSVP (which are nice, but not necessary) contact Mark at mark at lyndale.org or

Walldog Harvest Brunch Provided by Youth Farm and Market Project

10 am to 12 pm
Join the Youth Farm and Market Project for a fantastic breakfast on Sunday
at the Kingfield Farmers Market. All proceeds from the breakfast will
benefit the Walldogs on Nicollet Project.
Painting
The painting of the murals will start on Thursday, September 13th and finish
up on Sunday, September 16th at both 3345 and 3357 Nicollet Avenue sites.

LNA is Looking for a Community Organizer
The Lyndale Neighborhood Association is looking for a Community Organizer.
This is a fulltime position with some benefits. LNA Organizers are part of
the staff team responsible for building and maintaining the web of
relationships in the community that allow ideas, opportunities, and
resources from residents and businesses to emerge. Responsibilities include
supporting residents and community partners to initiate, implement and
evaluate a wide variety of community initiatives in the areas of crime
prevention, youth & family, the environment, arts & culture, and inclusive
organizing in the Latino and Somali communities.
Additional responsibilities include extensive leadership development, active
organizing, including regular doorknocking, project management (including
event coordination), facilitation and training. This position requires a
great deal of self-motivation and initiative, and will be handled most
effectively by someone who can creatively link issues with the resources
needed to address them.

Joint Legislative Hearing on I-35W

Members of the public are encouraged to attend. The committee will be
seeking input from citizens on the reconstruction of the I-35W Bridge.
Public testimony will be heard on a first come, first served basis following
a brief presentation from MN DOT. The hearing is being hosted by the Senate
Transit Subdivision & House Transportation Policy and Transit Subcommittee,
chaired by Senator Scott Dibble and Representative Frank Hornstein.
City of Minneapolis Street Lighting Policy
The Minneapolis Public Works Department is finalizing its Street Lighting
Policy and Program which has been in the development process for several
years. We will be having nine community open houses in September 2007 at
various locations. These meetings will serve as opportunities to share
information about the proposed Street Lighting Policy and Program, as well
as gather community input.
The City of Minneapolis Street Lighting Policy and Program will support the
City's efforts around livable communities and urban development.
Appropriate lighting levels are a security and safety issue.
A policy will help to ensure that all areas of Minneapolis receive
consistent treatment, and will give clear guidance to elected officials,
residents, developers, and the Department of Public Works on all aspects of
street lighting system installation and maintenance.

The YWCA of Minneapolis Leadership Registry in partnership with MAP for
Nonprofit recruits women and people of color to serve on local nonprofit
boards. We provide training and make placements with local organizations
looking for diverse candidates with a variety of experience and skills.
Training is provided for board members to become allies in anti-racist work.
The goal is that local boards reflect the diversity of the populations that
they serve. We encourage you to spread the word about Leadership Registry
within your own networks.
