Public Meeting on Lyndale Avenue Reconstruction
Thursday, August 2nd
7 to 8:30 pm

The public is invited to attend a public informational meeting for the
reconstruction of Lyndale Avenue from Minnehaha Parkway to 31st Street,
which is scheduled to begin in the Spring of 2008. The meeting will provide
residents and business owners an opportunity to view the final layout and
ask questions about the project.
The informational meeting will be informal, with representatives from
Hennepin County and the City of Minneapolis available to answer questions
and discuss the design. Feel free to stop by anytime between 7:00 and 8:30
pm.
National Night Out

Dont forget that this coming Tuesday is National Night Out. National Night
Out is a great chance to connect with your neighbors about whats happening

Lyndale Youth Farm and Market Project's Annual Harvest Festival
Wednesday, August 15th

33rd street and Pillsbury Avenue
Come join us from 5:00 to 7:30 pm for Garden Tours, a homegrown Picnic,
games, and more!
Free and open to all ages!
ALSO:
Youth Farm will be selling our produce, grown by our 9-13 year olds, for the
next three Wednesdays at the Zion Community Dinner. Come check it out from
5:45-7:00 at Zion Lutheran Church on Wednesday August 1st, 8th, and 15th!
LNA is Looking for a Community Organizer
The Lyndale Neighborhood Association is looking for a Community Organizer.
This is a fulltime position with some benefits. LNA Organizers are part of
the staff team responsible for building and maintaining the web of
relationships in the community that allow ideas, opportunities, and
resources from residents and businesses to emerge. Responsibilities include
supporting residents and community partners to initiate, implement and
evaluate a wide variety of community initiatives in the areas of crime
prevention, youth & family, the environment, arts & culture, and inclusive
organizing in the Latino and Somali communities.
Additional responsibilities include extensive leadership development, active
organizing, including regular doorknocking, project management (including
event coordination), facilitation and training. This position requires a
great deal of self-motivation and initiative, and will be handled most
effectively by someone who can creatively link issues with the resources
needed to address them.

The 2nd Annual Parade of Community Gardens!
Celebrate the wealth and diversity of community gardens in the Twin Cities
during the 2nd annual Parade of Community Gardens! On Saturday, August 18th
from 10 am 2 pm.
Free event, all welcome! Visit one garden in your neighborhood or many
around the Twin Cities. The Lyndale Neighborhood Rain Garden (32nd and
Blaisdell) will be featured in this event.
Gardens will feature a variety of attractions including tasty veggies,
massage, ice-cream, music, art in the garden and more!
This event is coordinated by GardenWorks, a program of The Green Institute.

YWCA of Minneapolis Leadership Registry
The YWCA of Minneapolis Leadership Registry in partnership with MAP for
Nonprofit recruits women and people of color to serve on local nonprofit
boards. We provide training and make placements with local organizations
looking for diverse candidates with a variety of experience and skills.
Training is provided for board members to become allies in anti-racist work.
The goal is that local boards reflect the diversity of the populations that
they serve. We encourage you to spread the word about Leadership Registry
within your own networks.

Minneapolis offers rewards of up to $500 for graffiti arrests
The City of Minneapolis has started a new reward program to encourage people
to call 911 if they see graffiti vandals in action. A caller whose
information leads to an arrest and conviction can receive an award of up to
$500. For more information on the reward program visit

Were Looking for Some Great Gardens for the 1st Annual Lyndale Neighborhood
Garden Tour
The Lyndale Neighborhood Environment Committee is looking for some great
gardens to feature in the 1st annual Lyndale Neighborhood Garden Tour. The
event will feature some of the fantastic gardens in the Lyndale Neighborhood
and is being put on as a fundraiser for the Environment Committee. The
event will take place during the weekend of September 8th. Final event
details are forthcoming. To nominate or volunteer a garden contact Mark at

Minneapolis Public Library Board Meetings Offer Opportunity for Questions
Regarding Consolidation with Hennepin County Library System
All Minneapolis Public Library Board meetings scheduled through 2007 will
include time for public discussion and questions related to the proposed
consolidation with the Hennepin County Library system in 2008.
Board meetings are generally held the first and third Wednesday of the month
at 6 pm; upcoming meetings include:
* August 8, Walker Library, 2880 Hennepin Avenue
* August 22, Central Library, 300 Nicollet Mall
* September 19, Sumner Library, 611 Van White Memorial Boulevard
