Important October General Membership Meeting
Monday, October 22nd
7 to 9 pm
Painter Park
34th and Lyndale Avenue

At the October General Membership Meeting there will be a discussion of
several important things happening in Minneapolis and what Lyndale’s
position as a neighborhood should be on them. You can find an agenda and
background information at www.lyndale.org.

The issues we will be discussing are:
*	The Public Works Department of the City of Minneapolis has released
a draft City Lighting Policy. We will be discussing what Lyndale’s response
to this policy should be. We will NOT be discussing whether or not there
should be new lights in Lyndale.
*	There are a number of important things happening that will directly
impact the future of LNA. These include the draft report issued by the
Minneapolis Community Engagement Task Force and recent City Council actions
related to neighborhood organizations.
*	The LNA Board has also been working on a new decision making policy
for the neighborhood that is an attempt to help make it easy for people to
be involved in the neighborhood and for everyone to understand how decisions
are made. At this meeting the draft policy will be introduced as the
beginning of a process to gather neighborhood input.
*	There will also be an opportunity for people to comment on the draft
2008 LNA budget.

These are all very important issues for the neighborhood moving forward and
we would like to encourage everyone to come and voice there opinion.

Also don’t forget about Leonardo’s at Lyndale. LNA will now be hosting a
Leonardo's Basement class for kids approximately 4-12 years old during
General Membership meetings. It's a great alternative to simply having a
babysitter during meetings or no childcare - instead we will have a great
enrichment class - so parents can check out what's going on in the
neighborhood & kids get to invent, experiment, build, all sorts of things
with themes that relate to what's happening in the neighborhood.

Westy Copeland, a regular at Leonardo's and a Lyndale resident will be
teaching the classes.
We'll run them early - so those with early start schools can make a portion
of the class - 6:45pm -8pm. Come for just the first 45 min if bedtime is
early. There is a suggested donation per family - for 9 months of classes
for $30, or a drop-in of $10 per class – which is a real bargain for
Leonardo's classes. The neighborhood is subsidizing the rest of the cost.

Monstrous Crime Out – This Sunday
Sunday, October 21st
Meet at the Montrose’s at 4 pm
3200 Pleasant Avenue

We will be walking the neighborhood as a crime prevention strategy. Bring
the kids, dogs, aunts, uncles, neighbors, and friendly monsters. Costumes
are optional, but this is a great chance to try out costumes before
Halloween. Unfriendly monsters and drug dealers are not welcome. For more
information contact Jeanne at jeannewiener at netscape.com or 612.824.8337.

Are you on the Lyndale Walkers new Email List? If you’re not, you’re
missing a lot of great walks that are helping to keep our neighborhood safe.
To join the Lyndale Walkers Email List contact Jeanne
jeannewiener at netscape.com or 612.824.8337. If you’re a walker and not on

EID Celebration – This Sunday

5:30 to 6:30 pm

The LNA Environment Committee will be hosting a workshop for people
interested in LNA’s Climate Change Program on Monday, October 29th here at

The City’s Ten-Year Transportation Action Plan – Access Minneapolis – is
being created to identify steps that the City and its partner agencies
(Metro Transit, Metropolitan Council, Hennepin County, Minnesota Department
of Transportation) need to take within the next 10 years to improve the
current transportation system and ready it for continued growth. While the
Access Minneapolis plan is based on a long-term (2030) view of
transportation needs, it focuses on actions that should be undertaken
throughout the city over the next 10 years, recognizing that this timeframe
is subject to the availability of funds.

The Streetcar Feasibility Study recommends a long-range streetcar system and
identifies initial operating segments that might be good short “starter”
segments. The Study evaluated 14 Primary Transit Network corridors to
determine if the operation of streetcar in some of those corridors would be
physically, operationally and financially feasible. The study addressed
capital and operating costs, impacts on transit service, development
opportunities, physical constraints, ownership and operation alternatives,
maintenance and storage facility locations and funding alternatives.

If you need a translator or a disability related accommodation, such as a
sign language interpreter, wheelchair accessible meeting site or materials
in alternative format, please contact Charleen Zimmer, Project Manager, at
612-673-3166 or at Charleen.Zimmer at ci.minneapolis.mn.us at least a week
before the meeting.
