Open House Planning Committee
Were looking for a few good people to help plan the Lyndale Open House.
Taking place in March each year, the Open House is one of LNAs biggest
events of the year. Traditionally it features information about whats
going on with local nonprofits and LNA Committees; A Taste of Lyndale,
featuring great food from local restaurants; a silent auction, and great
kids activities. Great Gatherings, last years new thing will also be
returning this year.
If youre interested in helping out, come to our first planning meeting on
Wednesday, December 17 from 5:30 to 6:30 pm at the LNA offices, 3537
Nicollet Avenue. The time commitment for being on the planning committee is
three or four meetings between now and the Open House in March as well as
some work helping to organize things outside of the meeting. For more
information contact Mark Hinds at 612.824.9402 ext 16 or mark at lyndale.org.
Lyndale Annual Fund Drive
This past week you should have received a letter for the Lyndale Annual Fund
Drive. The Annual Fund Drive is an important part of keeping LNA a
financially healthy organization.
In these tough economic times, your contribution is crucial to ensuring that
LNA has the resources available to keep moving the neighborhood forward.
The Lyndale Neighborhood Association (LNA) is committed to working with
community members to create a safe, vibrant, sustainable, neighborhood where
people work together to create and achieve a shared sense of place.
During this past year LNA was able to achieve some significant
accomplishments, including:
* Organizing the Walldogs on Nicollet, a project that brought over 200
volunteers together to create 10 murals on 8 sites in 4 days. Community
action that truly redefined Nicollet Avenue.
* Creating the Lyndale Youth and Family Safety Initiative that brought
hundreds of community members together in the area around Horn Towers to
create safe, sustainable, public spaces and to develop positive
relationships between diverse groups of community members.
* Supporting great neighborhood events like the 11th Annual Fish Fest
and the Lyndale Open House.
This next year promises to be another fantastic year. A few things planned
for 2009 include: The creation of the new Lyndale Neighborhood Business
Association, which will provide a place for neighborhood businesses to come
together and work on improving our community as well as a comprehensive
approach to dealing with problem properties in Lyndale that will put LNA in
the forefront of housing and safety issues in Minneapolis.
Your support is critical to Lyndales future. As you consider year end gift
requests, we ask that you make the Lyndale Neighborhood Association one of
your top three charities. By making LNA one of your top three charities,
whether you can afford a donation of $250, $100, or $50, you will be showing
your support and commitment to a better, stronger neighborhood.
You can contribute to LNA by sending your contribution to LNA, 3537 Nicollet
Avenue, Mpls, MN 55408 or by donating online at our website
www.lyndale.org. Just click on the Donate Button on the left side of the
page.

City Offers New Finance Tool for Minneapolis Business Owners
The City of Minneapolis offers a new finance tool, the Working Capital
Guaranty Program, designed to help assist Minneapolis businesses secure
financing through private banking institutions. The City provides extra
assurance and support for Minneapolis business owners by providing a
guaranty on financing.
As the changing and challenging economic situation continues, the new loan
program is being rolled out as the holiday season begins, a time when
companies, for example, are in need of cash on hand for payroll or holiday
inventory. It is also common for small business owners to use home equity
lines of credit to finance some, or all, of their business operations. With
the drop in housing values and lenders freezing equity lines this program is
another option for companies.
How the program works
* A private lender funds the loan, and the City of Minneapolis
guarantees a portion of the financing, up to 80% of the first $50,000 and up
to 50% of the remainder. Although there is no limit to the amount of
financing provided by the bank, the Citys maximum guarantee is $75,000.
* A business must be in operation for 12 months; technical assistance
is available through the Metropolitan Consortium of Community Developers
(MCCD) and may be required; the borrower must demonstrate the ability to
repay the loan and be an acceptable credit risk; be in compliance with all
city code/licensing and have no building or health code violations.
* Loans can be used for general business operations, working capital,
production contracts, inventory or receivables.
* Guaranty terms and conditions also apply.
Contact Information
The program is administered by the Citys Department of Community Planning
and Economic Development, finance division. For more information, contact
Jessica Green at 612 673 5232 or Becky Shaw at 612 673 5066. Information can
