Transforming Nicollet Avenue
After a great first day two days of painting the Walldogs are well on their
way to transforming Nicollet Avenue.
On Thursday and Friday artists and volunteers gathered together in the
Lyndale and Kingfield Neighborhoods to start painting 10 murals on 8 sites
in 4 days. The Walldogs on Nicollet is one of the largest creations of
public art in Minneapolis' history.
"It is amazing to see these beautiful images coming to life," said Lyndale
Neighborhood Association Executive Director Mark Hinds. "It's been great to
see all the people from the neighborhoods and the rest of the Twin Cities
come around to see the artists and volunteers work."
Community members are really connecting with the murals on a personal level
when they see how the mural designs highlight the history of Minneapolis
and their neighborhoods. Mural designs for the project include the Nicollet
Ballpark, the Twin Cities Trolley Company, and the old Nicollet Field park
building (currently Martin Luther King Park).
