February General Membership Meeting Info
Monday, February 23rd
Painter Park
6:30 to 8:00 pm
(Meeting Materials) <http://www.lyndale.org/>

At the February General Membership Meeting we will have:

*	A presentation on some future possibilities for the Lyndale
Neighborhood Building (3537 Nicollet Ave) from a team of architects and
designers who worked with LNA as part of AIA-MN’s Search for Shelter. This
will be a really fun presentation as we imagine what LNA’s home could be for
the neighborhood.

*	Considering a resolution supporting the Midtown Greenway’s current
opposition to Xcel’s proposed new power lines running down the greenway.

*	Have a discussion about the DRAFT goals for LNA’s Strategic Plan for
2009-2012

Lyndale's General Membership meeting is our regular, monthly community
meeting. Everyone in the Lyndale Neighborhood is invited to join us at these
meetings to discuss important neighborhood issues and to help set the
direction for the Lyndale Neighborhood Association.

Want to come to the meeting, but you’re wondering what there will be for
your kids to do. LNA has got you covered. To help make General Membership
meetings accessible to everyone in the neighborhood LNA provides a class for
kids 4 to 12 from Leonardo’s Basement during every General Membership
meeting. The class is free, but with a suggested donation for those that
can.

2009 Lyndale Open House
Thursday, March 19th
6:00 to 8:30 pm
Lyndale Community School (34th & Grand Ave)

The theme for this year’s Open House is to “Be the Change.” The planning
committee chose this theme to highlight how LNA is working to bring
community members together to “Be the Change” they want to see in the
neighborhood.

This year’s Open House will be on Thursday, March 29th at the Lyndale
Community School (312 W 34th St.) from 6:00 to 8:30 pm. The Open House is
one of Lyndale’s biggest events of the year. This year’s event will feature
food from local restaurants, a silent auction, as well as representatives
from LNA committees and other local nonprofits who provide services in the
neighborhood.

New this year will be expanded activities for kids. This will include
activities by local youth organizations who will be organizing games and
activities for kids in the school’s gym.

Great Gatherings will also be back this year. Great Gatherings are events
hosted by neighbors for neighbors. The way they work is that people are
able to sign up for slots for the events they want to attend. But be
careful, each Great Gathering has a limited number of spots, so if you don’t
get your name in early, you may be out of luck

Reward Offered in Christmas Day Homicide
Minneapolis Police are appealing for the public's help to solve the City's
last murder of 2008. Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for
information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the Christmas Day
murder of 28-year-old Luis Morales-Figureoa.

Figureoa was found shot to death in the street near the intersection of Lake
Street West and Pleasant Avenue South at 5 a.m. on Dec. 25. "He was dressed
for the weather. But as far as details on how many times he was shot or
where he was shot, we'll have to leave that to the medical examiner," said
Lt. Richard Zimmerman.

According to Homicide Lt. Richard Zimmerman, The motive is unclear; they do
not suspect it was a robbery because the victim had a cell phone in his hand
and money in his pocket. Police do have a video from a business at the
corner showing Morales walking east on Lake Street with another person,
believed to be the shooter behind him.

Authorities are treating the incident as a homicide, and do not have any
suspects in custody. The Police hope that the reward- the tip can be
anonymous- will help explain what happened. If you have any information
call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS. www.crimestoppersmn.org

Public Input Requested on 31st

The following is a request from the 10th Ward office. Comments can be sent
to ralph.remington at ci.minneapolis.mn.us.

There is an upcoming public works project in the Ward and Council Member
Remington is looking for your feedback. The stop lights along 31st St W
between Hennepin and 2nd Ave S will be replaced with overhead stop lights in
order to increase their visibility and provide continuity. Federal funds
have been granted, bearing the full cost of the installation. In doing the
analysis for this project it was determined that two of the lights (Dupont
and Emerson) do not meet the standard warrants for a light and could be
downgraded to 3-way stop signs.

In order to read public opinion, Council Member Remington asked Public Works
to conduct a study on the impact stop signs would have on the intersections.
For the past four weeks the lights have been turned to blinking red and
there have been signs posted telling drivers that this is a test and asking
them to call a phone number and report whether or not they liked the change.
Public Works also kept track of any reported accidents at the intersections.

The results are in and those who responded are evenly divided in their
opinion. Also, there were no reported accidents.

So, as residents and drivers along the corridor, what do you think? Are you
in favor of removing or keeping the stop lights on Dupont and Emerson along
31st St W?

Please respond by February 24th so Council Member Remington can advise
Public Works in a timely manner.
