Lyndale Community School Information Meeting
312 West 34th St
Tuesday, June 2
6:30 to 7:30 pm

Many neighborhood parents are concerned about the Changing School Options
plans. While we do not know what that end result will be, it is likely that
there will be a closer relationship with Lyndale School. The Lyndale and
Kingfield neighborhood associations, along with Lyndale School, have offered
to co-host an evening event to learn about Lyndale School.

This meeting is NOT intended to discuss any of the options currently in
front of the Board. The meeting is to learn about the school, its current
academic and enrichment programs, and why it is considered by the district
to be a high-quality school. The purpose is to build a relationship with its
immediate neighbors so that, no matter the outcome of Changing Schools,
neighbors can make informed decisions about their involvement with Lyndale
School.

When: Tuesday, June 2, from 6:30-7:30 pm.
Where: Lyndale Elementary School, 312 West 34th St.
What: A presentation by the principal, the PTO president, and some teachers
To RSVP, please call the school: 668-4000
For question, please call Elizabeth Short, PTO president, 827-5235
Childcare will be offered.

Walldogs on Nicollet Win Minnesota Arts Commission Award
The Minneapolis Arts Commission has selected three public art projects to be
recognized with the first annual MAC Awards. The selected projects include
a colorful park bench crafted by youth in North Minneapolis, a Nicollet
Avenue mural project that increases awareness of the city’s heritage with
historic images of the city, and the installation of dramatic photographs in
a downtown skyway to give voice to the Minneapolis immigrant community.
Mayor R.T. Rybak will recognize the winners at the MOSAIC opening night
event at 7:05pm at the Pantages Theatre (710 Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis).
The award ceremony is free and open to the public.

Award for Celebrating the City through Public Art.
The recipient of the Award for Celebrating the City through Public Art has
contributed to the visual character of the community through a work of
public art. Through the work, the recipient has fostered the city’s sense
of spirit, heritage, and/or diversity. The recipient strives for high
standards of quality of public art, and has created work that has become a
symbol for the city.

Project: Walldogs on Nicollet. The Walldogs project created ten murals
along Nicollet Avenue in the
Lyndale and Kingfield neighborhoods during July 2008, which were painted by
local and national artists, as
well as community members. The murals depict elements from the history of
the city, including the city’s
historic and current skyline, the work of Joseph Nicollet, the Nicollet
Baseball Park, the history of the Lyndale
neighborhood, and the historic street car system.

Lead Artists: FranCisco Vargas, Bernie Gietl, Randy Szarzynski, David
Butler, Dale Manor, David Petri, Adam May, Dawn and Steve Lane, Bob Parsons,
Bill Diaz, and Judy Grossman.

Lyndale Campers Camp Out Weekend of June 5th to 7th
After a quiet summer last year (or was it too busy), the Lyndale Campers
will gather Friday aft through Sunday, June 5 – 7, at Group Site #1 at
Interstate State Park, on the St. Croix River, near Taylor’s Falls -on the
MN side of the river. This is a gorgeous site, in one of the last huge
stands of white pine, right ON the river, all grass sites, with a huge fire
ring built by the CCC in the 1930’s. This weekend will be hosted by Linda
Alton and Lynne Larsen, the Skrien family, and the Johansson-Prince family.
So you know fun times will be ‘around’ all of the time. Are you a first
time camper? Need equipment? Let one of us know (612-823-2518 to call
Lynne and Linda) or email at lindaalton at gmail.com
we have access to lots of
‘stuff’.

Some rubrics:
*	Please let us know if you are coming. We are technically not
supposed to have more than 25 on the site, so will need to know what you
should tell the gate at sign in
(!!)
*	Interstate is an easy drive, a bit more than an hour. You will need
to have or purchase a State Park sticker
either for the time you are there,
or for the season.
*	Fee: We paid for the site last Aug when the reservation was made,
and will calculate your part of the fee relative to how many campers join.
Say you are with the ‘Alton-Larsen’ group, when you sign in.
*	We all bring our own food, typically ‘share’ some part of our dinner
meal as we cook together over open fire.
*	Bring instruments for singing around the fire

*	Wood: if each of us purchase one round of wood at the gate, we will
be in good shape.
*	We are not officially in our ‘site’ until 4 p.m. on Friday, however
typically early arrival is no problem, and we’ll put up signs
 we are either
in site 1 or 2, right ON the river.
*	Park by the GROUP Camp site signs in the Interstate lot, you will
have to carry your things in about 100 yards. A wagon may be helpful.
*	You can come for one or two nights, or just join us during the day,
if you’d like.
*	There is lots to do
both exploring the ‘potholes’ at the park, and
clambering around the rocks. There is a rumor that some climbing coaching
may be available from local Lyndale climbing talent! Come prepared.
Swimming in the St. Croix is NOT an option
however kayaking and boating
definitely can be on your schedule.

Minneapolis launches new web site for residents to monitor city’s
performance
The City of Minneapolis places a high value on being a results-focused,
accountable and transparent local government. As part of its ongoing effort,
the City has launched a new Web site – Results Minneapolis
<http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/results> - where residents can track and
watch in a dynamic way how Minneapolis is performing in key service areas:
Public Safety; Education; Neighborhood Conditions; Housing & Economic
Development; Resident Health; and the Environment.

Each measurement section provides background information on the measure and
work related to improving performance. The information and data is
communicated in a clean, clear and concise manner through the use of charts
and graphs, neighborhood level data is shared using maps or drop down menus
for many of the measures, and each measure has a “related links” section for
additional information.

City of Minneapolis officials have put in place several enterprise-wide
systems that track the City’s performance toward achieving its five-year
goals and 2020 vision. Since 2006, City leaders have been regularly meeting
with different departments to track progress and discuss strategies on key
performance measures. After years of planning and measurement, and inspired
by discussions with residents, the new Results Minneapolis
<http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/results> Web site is the next step in
institutionalizing a results-focused, accountable and transparent
government.

Great Gatherings
It’s not too late. There’s still time to participate in this year’s Great
Gatherings. Each Great Gathering is an event or activity hosted by a
community member for other community members. 100 percent of the proceeds
from the Great Gatherings goes to support LNA.

To sign up for either of these Great Gatherings contact Norma at
612.824.9402 ext 15 or email norma at lyndale.org. You can check out the full
list of Great Gatherings at www.lyndale.org <http://www.lyndale.org/> .
