1st Annual Fish Fest Kickball Game: For those aged 9 to 90+ who would like
to take part in a little friendly competition before they eat, come to the
Painter Park ball field at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday for a short pick-up game of
Kickball before dinner. Try to wear a t-shirt in your preferred team color
gold/yellow/orange for the Golden Scorpion fish or blue/purple for the
Blue Fin Barracudas and do wear shoes you can kick with. We will follow
basic baseball rules, with a few differences due to the use of a kickball to
be announced before the game starts. If anyone is interested in acting as
the referee/scorekeeper, please contact Mary Burns-Klinger at 823-4478.
LNA Annual Meeting
Monday, June 22nd

Join us for the Lyndale Neighborhoods Association Annual Meeting on Monday,
June 22nd at Painter Park. The annual meeting is your chance to see whats
been going on for the past year and whats ahead for the next year. At the
meeting we will be electing six board members to two year terms and up to
five alternates to one year terms. All community members are eligible to
serve on the board.
This is your chance to show off your dessert making skills by entering your
favorite dessert into the Annual Dessert Contest.

8:00 Announce the Winner of the Annual Dessert Contest
At this years meeting we will also be voting on a Plan Modification to
Lyndales NRP Phase II plan. This plan modification will close out LNAs
Phase I plan and move the remaining funds into LNAs Phase II Plan. You can
read more about the plan modification in this months Lyndale Neighborhood
News.
We will also be providing information on LNAs new housing programs, which
include new low-interest loans for home rehab.
Childcare is available through Leonardos at Lyndale for children 4 to 12
years old, starting at 6:30 pm, at Painter Park. For more information check

Graffiti Buster Job Announcement
The Lyndale Neighborhood Association (LNA) is an award-winning, nationally
recognized community-based organization in South Minneapolis on the cutting
edge of community development. LNA is currently seeking two energetic
people to be Graffiti Busters for Lyndale.
This is a part time seasonal position without benefits. LNA Graffiti
Busters will play an integral role in helping to eliminate graffiti in
Lyndale. Graffiti Busters will be responsible for identifying, cataloguing,
reporting, and cleaning up graffiti in Lyndale.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities for a Graffiti Buster are to: identify,
catalogue, report, and clean-up graffiti in Lyndale. A Graffiti Busters
primary responsibilities are to:
* Identify incidents of graffiti throughout the Lyndale neighborhood
* Catalogue graffiti in LNAs property system
* Report graffiti to the City of Minneapolis
* Clean up graffiti throughout Lyndale this will require the
employee to work with a variety of graffiti clean-up products
* Work with the City of Minneapolis to clean up graffiti on public
property
* Work with property owners and managers to gain permission to
clean-up graffiti on their property
* Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
A competitive candidate will have:
* Be at least 16 years of age by June 1st, 2009
* Be willing to work outdoors
* Have volunteer experience with community/neighborhood-based
organizations
* Experience working with diverse populations; demonstrated experience
with immigrant communities preferred
* Good leadership and personal organizational skills
* Solid written and oral communication skills; computer proficiency a
must
* Ability to work flexible hours, including some evening and weekend
hours
* A passion and love for building a healthy community
* Ability to lift 50 pounds
* Willingness and ability to work with Graffiti clean up products
* Must be willing to furnish their own transportation to and around
the neighborhood
Compensation:
Compensation for this position will be $10 an hour with an average of 12
hours per week for 12 weeks starting in June 2009 and running into
September/October.

To help recognize the people who are making Lyndale a safe, vibrant, and
sustainable neighborhood the Lyndale Neighborhood Association is starting a
new Community Service Award!
The awards will be presented at the Lyndale Annual Meeting on Monday, June
25th at Painter Park (34th & Lyndale) from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. Each award
winner will receive an engraved brick and certificate of appreciation, the
brick is representative of their effort to help build a better neighborhood.

Community Service Award criteria are:
· Nominees must have been active in making the Lyndale Neighborhood a
safe, vibrant, and sustainable neighborhood within the preceding 10 years.
1 Nominees do not need to be active volunteers with the Lyndale
Neighborhood Association.
2 Nominees will be evaluated on the following criteria:
· Impact their work and commitment has had on improving the Lyndale
Neighborhood
1 The amount of time and energy they have
spent working on behalf of the neighborhood
· Nominees may be individuals, groups of people, businesses, or
organizations that work to make Lyndale a better place to live, work, and
play.
1 Nominees can not be current Board or Staff members of the
Lyndale Neighborhood Association.

At this months meeting Darlynn Benjamin, from Congressman Ellisons office,
will be discussing small business programs. There will also be an update and
discussion on Nicollet Avenue reconstruction. Tatonka Real Estate Advisors
is the featured business & will be discussing the space being vacated by the
Hennepin Medical Clinic

Nature Valley Grand Prix
On Friday, June 12th, the Minnesota Bicycle Festival presents the inaugural
Uptown Minneapolis Criterium as the Nature Valley Grand Prix moves from
Downtown Minneapolis to Uptown. The 1-kilometer course comprises six tight
corners and a furious race to the finish line at Hennepin Avenue and 31st
Street. With a long straightaway across the finish line into a very short
run between turns one and two, speeds will descend from a brisk 35-plus mph
into the low digits before ramping up again out of turn five on Lake Street.
Strong racers and teams will stay up front to control the tempo and avoid
accidents.

Schedule:
- 4:30pm Expo opens along 31st Street west of Hennepin
- 6:00pm Kids race
- 6:30pm Women pro race
- 7:45pm Men pro race
- 8:45pm Racing ends
- 9:00pm Expo closes
Course: Start/Finish on Hennepin at 31st, south to 32nd, west to Holmes,
north to 31st, west to Irving, north to Lake, east to Hennepin, south to
31st.
Parking and Traffic: Lake Street will be open with 2 lanes and Hennepin
Avenue from Lake to 32nd will be closed. Portions of 31st Street, Humboldt
Avenue, Holmes Avenue, and Irving Avenue closed. Please consult the
attachment or visit http://www.minnbikefestival.com/uptowninfo for specific
road closures and parking impacts. We are encouraging people to bike to the
event, as its in the spirit of what were about and itll beat driving and
paying to park. There will be a bike corral on the east side of Hennepin on
31st Street. Bike racks and various poles are all around Uptown for bike
parking.

Great Gatherings
Its not too late. Theres still time to participate in this years Great
Gatherings. Each Great Gathering is an event or activity hosted by a
community member for other community members. 100 percent of the proceeds
from the Great Gatherings goes to support LNA.

Fun on the Farm Day
Come join us for fun at the farm. My mother has a hobby farm in Chanhassen
(25 minutes from Lyndale.) She is inviting 20 children and their parents to
come out to the farm to ride a horse, get their picture taken, and have a
light lunch. We'll also have some other fun activities going on.
