Vote in City Elections on Tuesday, November 3rd
City elections will take place on Tuesday, November 3rd this year. Offices
up for election include Mayor, City Council, Park Board, and Board of
Estimate and Taxation. There is also a ballot measure that would eliminate
the Board of Estimate and Taxation. To help Lyndale residents make informed
choices LNA has set up an Election Information Page
<http://www.lyndale.org/current-issues/2009-city-election-information> on
our website. It includes information on Ranked Choice Voting (RCV), links
to candidates websites, and the complete questionnaires for every candidate
who returned one.
November General Membership Meeting

Painter Park (34th & Lyndale)
6:30 to 8:00 pm
Join us at the November General Membership meeting to hear about LNAs new
housing programs which include low interest loan programs for
single-family and multi-family housing units; a program to help create
affordable, green housing in the neighborhood, and an innovative way to help
renters in Lyndale become home owners. At the meeting we will also be
hearing from Restorative Justice in Action, who LNA is partnering with on a
restorative justice program for the neighborhood. We will also be holding a
community vote on LNAs 2010 budget. Treats for the meeting will be
provided by Holly Reckel and Lisa Lewis.
Childcare is available through Leonardos at Lyndale for children 4 to 12
years old, starting at 6:30 pm, at Painter Park. For more information check

Volunteer Opportunities
Help develop LNAs new Communication Plan and Redesign www.lyndale.org.
LNA is looking for four to five volunteers to help LNA develop a
communication plan. The goal of the plan is to make sure LNA is
communicating effectively with everyone in the neighborhood. This will
include a redesign of the website www.lyndale.org, a new look for the
Lyndale E-News, the addition of a neighborhood Facebook page, and much, much
more. This is a short-term volunteer opportunity, were hoping to have no
more than five or six meetings over the next four or five months. If youre
interested in helping out with this or would like to learn more about this
opportunity contact Mark Hinds <mailto:mark at lyndale.org> at 612.824.9402
ext 16.
LNA Volunteer Planning
To help make sure that volunteering with LNA is everything it can be and to
help encourage more people to volunteer with their neighborhood LNA is
developing a volunteer plan. Were looking for a couple of people to help
develop the plan over the next three months. Were expecting to have two to
three meetings of around an hour; there will also be a limited amount of
work outside the committee meetings. For more information or to volunteer
contact Mark Hinds <mailto:mark at lyndale.org> at 612.824.9602 ext 16.

Street sweeping set to begin in Minneapolis
Minneapolis Public Works will begin the big task of curb-to-curb sweeping
and leaf collection on streets throughout the city On Tuesday, Oct. 27.
During the four weeks of the comprehensive fall street sweep, crews will
clean up about 1,100 miles of city streets. To make sure the sweepers can do
the best job possible, temporary No Parking signs will be posted at least
24 hours in advance to make sure streets are clear of cars when theyre
swept. The first signs will be posted Monday, Oct. 20, and sweeping will
begin the next day. Anyone who parks on the street will need to follow
street sweep parking rules or their cars may be ticketed and towed.
Making it easy to follow parking rules!
* No Parking signs City crews will post No Parking signs at
least 24 hours before sweeping any streets. Parking will be banned from 7
a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the day a street is swept. The No Parking signs will
be removed as soon as possible after a street has been completely swept to
allow people to resume parking. Vehicles not in compliance with No Parking
signs will be ticketed and towed to the Minneapolis Impound Lot.
* Phone calls to residents In addition to the No Parking signs
that will be posted the day before sweepers come through, the City will make
about 3,500 automated phone calls each evening to let residents know their
street will be swept the next day.
* Interactive Web feature Starting Saturday, Oct. 24, folks can use
a feature on the Citys Web site to find out when the sweepers are coming
through their neighborhoods. The tool will be available at
www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/streetsweep.
Minneapolis streets are swept completely curb to curb once in the spring and
once in the fall.
Residents should not push leaves, grass clippings, or other debris into City
streets its bad for our lakes and waterways, can cause safety hazards,
and is against the law. Anything that goes down a storm drain flows
directly into our lakes and river, and decomposing plant material in the
water encourages the growth of harmful aquatic plants and algae.
